This photo was taken in the comfort of my home, on the couch in my living room.Time
I'm not 100% certain what time we shot, but I want to say early afternoon.Lighting
I had her sit on our couch directly in front of the window so we could get as much light as possible, since we were obviously shooting underneath a blanket. Luckily the sun was high so we had an abundance of light pouring in.Equipment
I used my Nikon D610 and 50mm lens.Inspiration
This photo was completely unplanned, we were just hanging out at home and I was itching to shoot something. I try to photograph my kids everyday and I'm always looking for different ways to capture them. I had seen a few images taken under a white sheet or creamy blanket and I thought it might be cool to throw this colorful crochet blanket over her head and see what happened.. I'm in love with the results.Editing
I adjusted the exposure and shadows, I also added clarity and luminance. I love to use Smal presets on my personal work as well, I love the tones it creates and the way the colors pop.In my camera bag
I am not really an equipment junky, I have my favorite things and I don't like to stray from them. My camera bag has my Nikon D610, a 50mm lens, 35mm lens and my prism that I use to create a fun effect on a few images at each portrait session - or on my personal photos if I'm feeling it.Feedback
My biggest advice would be to make sure you have enough light pouring in from wherever you are shooting and to be creative with the way you use your subjects hands to hold the blanket up. I had her adjust her pose a few times until we got one that I loved. It probably would have been easier for me to use my free hand to hold up the blanket but I don't think the image would have carried the same emotion without her hand placement. Also, using the "not so typical" blanket is always a good idea.
