Location
The Photo was taken at a Rhino reserve in South Africa, 3 hours North of Johannesburg. I was lucky to have a the opportunity to go out with a local guide (Fred Kruger) on the Ants Nest Reserve in Waterberg, to find, follow and photograph the reserves Rhinos.Time
The photo was taken late afternoon as the sun was on the set side. Light was becoming just perfect for these imagesLighting
The photo is all natural lightning, South Africa is blessed with great sunsets and the colours are just perfectEquipment
I was using a Canon 5DS with a 24-105mm lens. The photo was taken hand held as i was kneeling just to the right as they passed.Inspiration
I wanted to get a photo of the majesty and power of the Rhinos. I had spent the afternoon out with Fred and the local photographer Lotty at various places in the reserve. We were fortunate enough to find the two young makes here on their way through the bush, there are actually 4 Rhinos is this group but I felt that the image best shows the grace and power.Editing
I initially carried out some work in Lightroom to adjust the exposure, light and crop. In Photoshop I did add a little vignette, with a few more details adjustment sin RAW Filter. In my camera bag
My Safari Bag is usually a Canon 5DS with a 100-400mm, 24-105mm and a 50mm lenses. I have to admit that I'm due to go back out in 12 days time and change the bag kit to a Sony a9 with the canon 70-200mm and a 1.4 extender. I will take the 100-400 as well just in caseFeedback
The image was captured with the help of a great guide who knows the area, the animals and their routines. My only suggestion is get yourselves out to Africa, Ants Nest/Ants Hill is a Horse Riding Safari location but cater for everyone. Without the reserve these majestic animals would be in a much worse world.
