Location
We took this photo on a drive through the Rocky Mountains. We made a quick stop along the road between Medicine Lake and Maligne Lake when we saw this perfect stretch of empty road.Time
It was probably around 3 in the afternoon when we took this photo. We had just finished a good long day of hiking and shooting along the trails around Maligne Lake and were on our way back home when we see this perfect photo op.Lighting
This shot was done with 100% natural lighting. The sky was just starting to get cloudy by the time we were heading home and hit that perfect level of overcast when you got this photo where it wasn't too dark and gloomy, but there were absolutely no shadows. Like a big ol' soft box in the skyEquipment
This photo was taken with a sony A6000 and the sigma 60mm f/2.8Inspiration
The photo itself was quite spur of the moment, we saw an opportunity and took it. We didn't have much time to pull it off, but I wanted to really invoke that pure sense of wanderlust by capturing as much of the surrounding wilderness while still maintaining that girl traveling the road with no care.Editing
This photo didn't get much editing out of camera, but there were a few tweaks I had to make. I brought the exposure up just a smidge to showcase that beautiful white snow and lowered the saturation on the colours a fair bit. I wanted this photo to be subtle. In my camera bag
My go to camera is always my A6000 and I always carry my full lens set on me, because I never no what to expect when I'm out and about. I rock my Sigma 60mm f/2.8 as my main lens and the rest of my set includes a Rokinon 12mm f/2.0, a Neewer 50mm f/2.0 and of course the Sony 16-50 f/3.5Feedback
The best advice I can give is to always have your camera ready. Don't spend so much time trying to find the perfect shot, just enjoy the moment. When you feel the world around you, when your soul is moved and you just pause to stare, that's it, that's the moment we all look for when taking our photos.
