Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken at the then new Menlyn Main square in Pretoria

Time

Round 20:00

Lighting

Persistence pays off, this was one of my first long exposure night shot, thus I had to retake it a few times. Secondly it is fun to try something new!

Equipment

My camera Canon EOS 650D, a EF-S18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 ISII lens and a tripod.

Inspiration

This was during the festive season, with a lot of additional lights all round the square. From the opening of the square I always wanted to take a photo of that statue. I just felt that a night shot would make it a lot more dramatic.

Editing

Nothing special, just converting it from RAW and some dodge and burn.

In my camera bag

My camera (Canon 650D) and depending on where I go, the following lenses: EF 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6L IS USM, EF-S55-250mm f/4-5.6 ISII, EF-S18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 ISII and EF-S 10-18mm f/4.5-5.6 IS STM. A tripod. Also in the bag I keep a spare battery, memory card and cleaning gear.

Feedback

I'm by no means a night or long exposure expert, so all I can say is to get out there try it! There many tutorials out there on this subject that teach you the basics. Than it is up to you to figure it out.
