Behind The Lens

Location

The photo was taken on a game drive in Botswana, in Okavango Delta, I was Staying at Sandibe and beyond and it was my last day morning in Botswana, we stayed with the leopard on the move for about 15 minutes, when she came to this tree and went up and hung out, it was the second Tree it tried but it worked out better for me.

Time

It was a morning game drive, so 8:00 am as I had to be back at the lodge by 9 to head to the airport, it was also the 3rd leopard we had seen in the 2 days, and 4th for the whole trip in South Africa and Botswana, but it quickly became my favourite

Lighting

It was morning light so it wasn't very harsh yet, and the tree and leaves helped break down the extra light

Equipment

Nikon D4s, AF-S NIKKOR 200-400mm f/4G ED VR II, UV filter, and hand held

Inspiration

leopard are and always have been my favourite big cat, and this is second trip to Africa and all I have wanted was a leopard in a tree preferable with a kill but at least I got half of it

Editing

There was a bit of touch up in Lightroom, contrast, shadows, and lighting was close enough I didn't need to crop in

In my camera bag

Go to body is Nikon D4s, with the AF-S NIKKOR 200-400mm f/4G ED VR II, I love both the speed and crispness of them, I also carry a Nikon D750 paired with either AF-S NIKKOR 70-200mm f/2.8G ED VR II or AF-S NIKKOR 14-24mm F2.8G ED, and it all gets packed into a lowepro whistler BP 450 aw, and a MacBook Pro was 15 inch but dropped down to 13 inch

Feedback

Spend as much time as you can with the subject, have a million tons of patience and hope and prey the animal does what you want, and you don't just get them walking away, not that you cant get amazing photos like that, but it helps to be a little twisted in the head when taking a butt shot of a animal
