Location
This shot was taken a few years ago when the Snowbirds came to Kingston Ontario.Time
The show was in early afternoon and initially I was disappointed with the lack of blue sky but soon realized it was better with cloudsLighting
Though you don't have a choice on when you can photograph the Snowbirds, you can have fun. I love the smoke trailsEquipment
I used my Nikon camera hand held because speed and placement were a huge factor.Inspiration
I love the roar of these planes flying so close to us and wanted to capture the power of that sound. I think the contrast in light and dark helped.Editing
Typically I like to get most of what I need in camera, I learned with film and so old habits die hard. the editing would have been Light/darkening and some contrast. Sharpening is a favourite as well.In my camera bag
I tend to not carry more than one lens at a time. When I first purchase a new lens, I make a pint of using it every day for months to familiarize myself with its capabilities. This has worked really well for me over the years. Now when I go out to shoot something specific I know which lens i should take. Having said that there have been times when I regretted not taking more than one. On the whole I find switching lens's is distracting and many times there is not enough time..Feedback
Practice Practice Practice. For moving objects at home I set up a bird feeder just to practice shooting movement. Learning along the way that different lens have totally different effects.
