Behind The Lens

Location

I live on the northern shore of a beautiful lake in SE Louisiana. This shot, through the window/framing of a huge live oak tree that literally drips with Spanish Moss. On one misty, foggy morning I went with friends and saw this young fella lounging on one of the low branches. I loved the frame created through the tree.

Time

It was a misty, foggy morning on the lakefront park area.

Lighting

The mist filtered light gave a softness to the shot.

Equipment

My go-to camera is a Nikon D5300 with a Tamron mid-range zoom.

Inspiration

I love shooting nature and our live oaks are huge and have a majesty to them because of their age and size. The subject reclining on the low limb added a special touch to the shot.

Editing

I took this shot toward a nostalgic edit. It seemed to add to the restfulness of the shot.

In my camera bag

Nikon D5300, Tamron 18-400mm lens, cleaning cloth and my Nikon macro (just in case)

Feedback

I think the mood created by a 'bad weather day' can actually turn out some exceptional shots. It adds mood, the lighting is often subdued & has a nice soft edge. A creative photographer will always find a way to see a scene, compose and shoot. There is no 'bad setting' ~other than total dark or total light. Everything inbetween... go for it... play with it in editing.... it can always be deleted.. but shoot, shoot, shoot!
