got up early for a sunrise this week and captured this beautiful flight with the soft morning light. Love the slight reflection and the circle on the surface of the almost still water surface.

Great capturing moments happen in a blink of eye! Specially when we don’t expect them.

Thanks, Lauren! I thin early morning light is the best of the whole day. Has a soft freshness that sunset lacks.

Thank u! I didn't even think it was anything, until I got it uploaded. That circular ripple is in the perfect place. Morning light, my fav to shoot in. It has such a softness about it.

Thanks Byron! It is quite serene. Usually this bird with its long skinny neck isn't very photogenic.. but, this shot, I was even surprised. Isn't the ring on the water surface just a nice special touch I only realized in editing!

Thanks...early morning is my fav time to shoot. The light is so soft and waters very still. Really captures a wonderful mood. Thanks JayneBug!!

Location
I live in the southern US where there are many marshlands, swamps and waterways, of course. This bird was flying along a canal that meandered through marshland. They love fishing!Time
I shot this flight in the early morning just after sunrise while the waters were still unmoving. It is a favorite time to shoot because of this stillness and the mood that it conjures.Lighting
I love the soft light of early morning. There is a stillness on water surfaces. This was almost still with only a circle created by a fish surfacing. This is just what the wildlife is waiting for!Equipment
I used my Nikon D5300 with my new lens, a Tamron 18-400mm. I love it!!Inspiration
Early morning is a favorite time for me to go out on a shoot. There is a quiet stillness that pervades landscape scenes. This shot provides a great example of the mood of sunrise. I have learned there is more to shoot in a sunrise than the sun rising. Turn around and use the soft light with the sun behind or to your side. It is the softness given to landscape all around you.Editing
I used LR to post-process. As with a great shot out of the camera, there was little to do. I kept a simple edit to enhance the flight.. white balance and a bit of highlight. That's all.In my camera bag
I used only 1 camera, Nikon D5300 and 2 lens~Tamron 18-400 & a Nikon Macro. Along with these, I keep lens cloth, extra memory cards and that's it. I do not have other equipment..this serves my needs just fineFeedback
Get out early. Remember to shoot all directions in a sunrise...plus the blue hour before and the golden hour after.. This was a golden hour shot.. about 30-60 minutes after sunrise.
