Behind The Lens
Location
This photo was taken in an old cold war bomb shelter in South London, that now doubles up as a studio among other things.Time
For this photo, it was part of a session where I book a model and myself and the rest of the studio team help club members to have a go at studio photography. We don't get long, the session runs from 8pm - 10pm, so this would have been taken during this time.Lighting
With a beard as fantastic as this, we wanted to make sure the lighting helped capture this, so along with a main light at the front another was placed behind the model to create a ring light through the hair.Equipment
None of my equipment is fancy or expensive - this would be taken on a Canon 600d, with a cheap Tamron lens.Inspiration
The model is an actor called Don Lickley, who has appeared in a few big films and he lives local to the studio and agreed to come down and model for us. His look is amazing, and something I really wanted to capture.Editing
This was processed in lightroom, with the white balance adjusted to warm the image. In my camera bag
Not a lot on studio evenings. My main role there is to help others with their photography so I normally have my Canon 600d, a 50mm prime and my trusty Tamron 17-50 lens, which although is quite cheap, I love the clarity of it.Feedback
Anyone can do it. Trial and error are the best tools to learning. Forget about being a gear whore, learn what the gear you have can do inside out, and you'll be able to do anything. If you've never tried your hand at studio photography before, why not join a local camera club that has this facility so it wont cost you too much.
