Location
This photo was taken during the "Young & Able", a caritative Fashion Show in Brussels, at BMW's Belgium's biggest and most prestigious dealership.Time
It was late afternoon, or should I say the beginning of the evening... the rehearsals were taking a bit long, and the whole team was in a rush. Natural light was vanishing as the day was getting to its end.Lighting
As mentionned above, daylight was fading away, and the light props for the show were not ready yet. In order to trigger fast enough, I made a few shots underexposing a bit.Equipment
The body is a Canon 550D and the tele lens is a Sigma 70-200 2.8. No additionnal lighting was used.Inspiration
The rehearsals for fashion show are a good time to build a relationship withj the models. It is all in the acquaintances and this is the right time to catch some looks. As the afternoon went by, I made a few shots from that particular location, which was the runway from backstage to the main catwalk. Just before the models get into the deep and focus on what they are there for.Editing
As usually, I barely do post-processing. Just raising general contrast, push the darks, push the brights, and add a tad of clarity to sharpen a bit.In my camera bag
At that time, I was using my good ols Canon 550D, a Sigma 70-200 f2.8 fast tele and a versatile Sigma 17-70 f2.8-4. In case I get to be thrown in the darkness (and to make portrait too), I also pack my nifty fifty (50mm f1.8) which is a fairly good lens regarding the price it costs. I never get affraid of dropping it or to loose it, since it costs about nothing. Nowadays, I carry a Canon 5d mkII with the same 70-200, a 16-35 f2.8L, the good old nifty fifty. I still work mostly in natural light, so I don't carry much lighting appart from a small remote flash (GN ? 60)Feedback
Be patient, be kind. Be good to others, and try to build a nice relationship with your models. It is all in the way a model considers the photograph that makes the looks, the attitudes, the human and the thin, the intangible.
