Location
For the summer of 2015, I was hired by the magazine Yukon, North of Ordinary to produce content for their website. This photo was taken at the Kathleen Lake, part of Kluane National Park.Time
I had just driven to Kluane from Dawson City. I arrived around dinner time and cooked up a meal for myself in the parking lot by the lake. Around 8pm I decided to go for a walk to take some shots of the stunning scenery. I sat down by this log to catch my breath for a moment, and this fun shot popped out at me.Lighting
During the summer, the Yukon sees around 20 light. Because the sun takes so long to set you're left with many hours of twilight, which is perfect for taking pictures.Equipment
This shot was actually taken on a Nexus 5, no tripod, no flash.Inspiration
I really loved the texture of the log, and the symmetry it has with the mountain.Editing
I applied an unsharp mask, and did some light exposure editing with the highlights and shadows. In my camera bag
Nikon D90, 35mm F1.8, 28-80 f3.3-5. I'm on a serious budget, lol.Feedback
Keep your eyes open for the unexpected. Experiment with angles and exposures. Get down in the dirt. Focus on the picture you're taking and not what you look like taking it.
