Location
The photo was taken on the late and cold winter night in one of my favorite spots. Over the Logarska valley, Sol?ava in Slovenia.Time
The original plan was to take a photo of the sunset over the mountains ... but the weather was not as I expected, and the sky was almost without clouds ... so I decided to stay and shoot some photos in to the blue hour. And everything else was just an unexpected bonus ...Lighting
Blue hour gave the winter perfect cold tone ... and the contrast of the house and street lights in the valey were perfect color variety to make it more interesting ... I wanted this image looks mystic as much as it could be ... the moon behind me gave me enough light to get the ground ... so I set the photo to sequence and decided to enjoy the mystic of the view ... I used several different settings to get the image on the different levels as I wanted ... and when I started shooting stars magic happened ...Equipment
This was shot with NikonD600 on tripod, with an 16-28 mm lens ...Inspiration
When I saw the view, the blue, the cold, the fog and streets lights in the distance ... I just had to try ...Editing
Yes, of course I did ... I assembled all together 5 images (used different settings to get the background and foreground the way that I wanted), and used them one over another, to get as much details I could with the image that cought the falling star ... added some contrast to get more intensive blue and orange and to get stars brighter ...In my camera bag
Almost every time I have all my lenses with me in my bag (don't ask, that just the way I like it) ... you just don't know what you'll find on your way, and sometimes you get nice surprise like this one in front of the lens ... usually when you are at least expected it ... so I have in my bag (most of the time): Nikon D600, 16-28 mm (f/2.8), 50 mm (f/1.8), macro 105 mm (f/2.8), 70-200 mm (f/2.8) and 70-300 mm (f/4.5-5.6) ... and of course tripod and remote control ... so, I don't mind the extra weight to carry around, even if most of the time I use 16-28 mm and macro lens ...Feedback
My advice is ... just go out and take photos ... and when you'll know it's the right moment, don't bother go home before you don't get what you see ... it's easier to stay and try than regret ... ;)
