Location
This photo was taken at the Dullstroom Bird of Prey Centre in South Africa. They do wonderful rehabilitation and education work and I love visiting and supporting them. They do daily flight displays, but this photo was taken at a photographic morning where you as photographer can have a one on one with the birds.Time
When you book a photographic morning, you have to be at the centre at 7am. I live about 2 and a half hours away, so it was a really early start. It was a beautiful morning with clear skies and perfect light, so it was worth it.Lighting
Because it was early morning, I had to be mindful of the rising sun. I asked the falconer to fly it from west to east and was able to get the perfect shot with perfect lighting just before it flew in front of the sun.Equipment
This was shot with my Sony Alpha A200 DSLR and a 70-300mm Sigma lens.Inspiration
I am always trying to better my skills as photographer and good photos of birds in flight takes practice, which I do every chance I get. There's just something special and majestic about a beautiful bird in flight.Editing
With this photo I got really lucky and only had to crop the photo. In my camera bag
I have a Sony Alpha A200 with a 18-70mm Sony lens, a Sony Alpha A580 with a 70-300mm lens in my bag and my tripod in the car.Feedback
Early morning light is the best for photos like these and practice makes perfect. Do not try and wait for the perfect photo, put your camera on continuous shutter and go for it. In this 3 and a half hour session, I took over 1000 photos and got 4 perfect ones.
