Location
Mesa Arch, Moab, UtahTime
Just after sunrise around 6:10amLighting
This is one of most photographed arch in that area. Sunrise time is generally over crowded; people reachs there almost 1.5 hr before as the space is limited. As the sun went up the sky, light started changing to golden. People started packing and all of asudden we saw this felow climbed on the arch.. and my camera shutter clicked!!Equipment
Canon 5d Mark iii, Canon 16-35 F2.8L, Oben Carbon Fiber tripod and shutter release cable were my gears for this shootInspiration
The lighting, location and composition during sunrise inspired me to take this imageEditing
This was single shot processed in Adobe Camera Raw. Carefully processed the highlight and shadow to retain the natural gradient formed by the morning light. Balanced the colors and contrast and made black & white version for this postingIn my camera bag
It was a week long vacaion in Utah. Was carring Canon 5D Mark iii, Canon 60D, Canon 16-35 f2.8, Canon 100-400, Canon 24-105 f4, Sigma 10-20 f3.5, Rokinon 14mm f2.8, extra batteries, memory cards, shutter release - intervelometer, lots of LED lights and an Oben carbon fiber tripodFeedback
Sunrise is the most preferred time here but it is kind of a window arch so space is very limited. Try yo get there atleast 1.5hr before sunrise on a partly cloudy day. Don't leave the place immediately after sunrise shoot: look for other opportunities like this. Make use of zoom lense for some closeup of the valley below. Check some night sky software and comeback at night to capture rising milkyway over the arch
