This image of a mimosa tree bloom was shot in Orange, an area that has suffered a lot of flooding and damage due to many hurricanes over the years. I set out with my camera after a hurricane to shoot images of storm damage and came home with this beautiful picture on my memory card.Time
It was mid day and the sun was bright. I found just enough shade from another nearby tree to help me out.Lighting
There was no special lighting. I only shoot in natural light and never use a flash. There was a layer of water drops on everything from a nearby sprinkler system, and the tree was covered with pink mimosa blooms, and that’s what created the yummy pink bokeh.Equipment
I like to travel light. I used a Canon 135mm mounted on my Canon 5D, the old school original 5D. The very first model of 5D to come out. I love this camera so much, and no matter what new equipment I get, there is always a spot in my camera bag for my original 5D.....I learned to shoot on this model and it’s somewhat like a dear old friend to me. I only shoot in natural light and never use a flash, and usually shoot with an aperture wide open for more bokeh.Inspiration
Actually, I had just purchased a new lens just minutes before this image was shot. I pulled in to the park next door to the camera shop to try it out because I couldn’t wait to get home. A new lens for me is like being a kid on Christmas morning.Editing
I use Lightroom 6 to edit. I bumped up the color a bit and sharpened it some.In my camera bag
Of course my Canon 5D original model is always in my bag......it’s a seniority thing. Also, a Canon 5D Mark II,all Canon Lenes..... 135mm 2.0, 24-105mm 4.0, 35mm 1.4, and a 50mm.Feedback
A wide open aperture and water drops make for pretty bokeh images.
