Behind The Lens
Location
Photo was taken in Tawas, Michigan at small point near town.Time
The time of day was around early afternoon, before a store was starting to roll through.Lighting
As great shot to capture before a storm rolled through. Timing was everything, as you can even see someone standing on the railing area by the tower of the light itself.Equipment
Shot was taken with a Canon 7D with a Tamron 18-270mm lens. The shot was done with High Dynamic Range in mind. Thus, a bracket of shots (3 successive) at -2, 0, and +2 exposure, which included the use of a tripod.Inspiration
While my friend was playing with his daughter, I decided to wander out to the beach and capture see what I could capture. In the midst, I was able to capture this amazing shot. The time of the year being fall made the leaves turning add an extra layer to this shot. I enjoy taking HDRs and to do so takes extra time. Though I had the fun of dealing with a windy day, which meant securing the camera and blocking the wind as the time ticked for the bracket of shots.Editing
With HDR that becomes a must. My post-process had me denoise each of the 3 shots individual for any obvious noise. Then merge the shots with Nik Software's HDR Efex Pro 2. To further tweak the shot, I then ran Nik Software's Control and Viverza filter systems to enhance the shot further. Finished off with a little Sharpening and all was well.In my camera bag
I do not carry much. I just have a couple lens and my tripod. Nothing much else. I work with what I have. I use the limits to my advantage then as a hindrance.Feedback
Take your time. I've gone there many times after and not had good luck to reproduce. A good time is just before or after a storm. Thus, less humidity and better clarity.
