Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken at Abraham Lake, in Alberta, Canada.

Time

This was around 5 or 6 in the evening.

Lighting

This lake is famous for its frozen methane bubbles in the ice. I was not planning on shooting anything until I saw the colours in the clouds start to light up. I parked my car, grabbed my gear and ran down to the shore to get some shots before it was too late.

Equipment

Canon 5D MKiii with a 24-70mm 2.8L, I used a ProMaster Carbon Fiber tripod

Inspiration

Couldn't have asked for a more spectacular sunset. I wasn't able to find any of the methane bubbles, so I decided to use the cracks in the ice to compose the foreground, and I couldn't be happier.

Editing

Very little

In my camera bag

Canon 5D MKiii, Tamron 15-30mm F2.8, Canon 24-70mm F2.8L, 70-200 2.8L ISii, ad a 1.5 extender. Usually have a couple ND filters, Variable ND, and a polarizing filter as well. Along with batteries, snacks and all the other necessities.
