This place has been photographed so many times that makes this shot unique on angle and composition. Good job!

Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken while I was backpacking through Spain at La Sagrada Familia in Barcelona. This is a panorama I took inside.

Time

It was the middle of the day and extremely busy. There were so many people so I was worried my photos wouldn't stitch together very well, but I love how the people ended up looking and how the photo captured how busy it was.

Lighting

The natural light coming in from all the windows was amazing for taking pictures. The whole time I was there I was taking as many pictures as I could because everywhere I turned there were different lighting situations and colours.

Equipment

At the time I had a Rebel XS which was my first DSLR camera which I learned on. This trip was right after I had taken a couple evening courses on post processing and lighting. I didn't have a tripod with me so I just tried to stay in the same position as much as I could and alter the angle and direction of the camera slightly with each shot.

Inspiration

The inside was so amazing and trying to capture the overwhelming detail, size and amazing colours was my goal. I wanted to get a shot that would help show just how magnificent the inside of this building is! My philosophy is to collect memories in life instead of things and the thing I love most about photography is the ability to capture a memory! A photo can take you back to what it felt like to be at that place, at that time! I try to take photos that capture a sense of what I was feeling when I took it so I can share my memories with others.

Editing

I couldn't get a shot I was satisfied with so I ended up taking 7 different photos (all the same camera settings) and when I got home stitched them together into a panorama using Lightroom and Photoshop. I used photoshop to stitch together the photo and then used Lightroom to do some final touches like adding a bit more contrast and in this case I also increased the saturation a bit to really capture how amazing the colors were. I wanted the photo to capture how I felt standing in the building.

In my camera bag

I just got a Canon 7d Mark II for my birthday from my husband so I am extremely excited about that! My two main lenses that I use are a Canon 50 mm prime and an 18mm to 270 Tamron which I got for traveling so I can take a wide range of shots with one lens. I also have a Canon speedlite 430EXII which I try to bring with me.

Feedback

This shot was an experiment that I really loved once I got home and stitched it together. I have many more experiments that didn't turn out how I wanted them too (other panoramas, HDRs, different lighting etc), but if you keep learning and trying different experiments and techniques you always eventually end up with something you love!
