Behind The Lens

Location

Lucerne Valley, an old farming community in the Mojave Desert in California

Time

During the winters evening civil twilight

Lighting

The early morning and late evening sky's in the desert almost always have beautiful colors.

Equipment

This image was shot with a Canon 7d and a Canon 17-85 IS USM lens. Using a Manfroto tripod, I took 3 exposures +2 stops, normal, -2 stops

Inspiration

I pass by this little shack every day and find it sad that, in days gone by this little house was home to some farm hands family and now it is just rotting away.

Editing

This was 3 images +2 stops, normal, -2 stops and processed in PhotoMatix Pro for HDR. In Lightroom 5 I knocked down the saturation a bit, as too many HDR images are too saturated and look over processed

In my camera bag

My camera bag, which is always in my Jeep has a Canon 7d and T3 bodies, Tokina 11-16 f/2.8, Canon 17-85mm IS USM, and a Tokina 80-400mm f/4.5,5.6 lenses. It also has a Manfrotto tripod and monopod, remote triggers and intigralmeters and filters.

Feedback

When shooting a subject that requires bracketing, HDR is a awesome processing tool to get a nice look and feel to the image, but most people over do it. Tone it down a bit and bring the saturation down a little. You and your admirers will like them even more.
