India has a tremendous issue with poverty. The expressions of the people in this village were unbelievable. This old man had piercing eyes that appeared to have seen the world! Seen toil, happiness in squalor, delight in the simplicity! But, they also reflect the sadness of a life that had seen strife. Capturing this image felt like I was archiving a whole life in one photographEditing
The picture was taken pre-digital age! Slight brightness and contrast adjustments were made of a scanned negative. In my camera bag

Blend in with your surroundings! In such environments, engage in a conversation with your subject, talk! Be respectful that they may NOT want to be photographed! When they are comfortable, ask permission to take pictures. Here's the trick I use - One eye through your lens / live mode and the other to maintain eye contact ..compose wide..you can crop later. Keep your conversation going as you shoot. Your subject will give you a wider range of expressions to pick from.
