Congrats on peoples choice!
Make sure you straighten those horizons and fix the chromatic aberrations (green and red fringing on the pylons).

Location
Manhattan Beach Pier in Los Angeles, CA.Time
I took this picture at "Golden Hour"Lighting
Golden hour is a great time to shoot pictures like this. The sky continually changes color as the sun heads towards the horizon, and after the sun goes below the horizon. But, you also need clouds in the sky.Equipment
I shoot with a Canon 5D markIII, and yes I used a tripod for this pictureInspiration
My inspiration for this picture was a couple of things. First, all the pier pictures Ive seen on view bug, and from other landscape photographers. Also the when I arrived at the pier the colors in the sky, I felt i was going to get a good picture.Editing
I twiked the picture VERY slightly in Lightroom, I think I only adjusted the contrast slightly. In my camera bag
I don't have a lot, my canon 5D mark III, a canon 70-200 2.8, canon 24-105, a reflector and a tripod.Feedback
Time of day is key, also if theres clouds in the sky. Ive found if theres no clouds, probably won't get all the beautiful colors in the sky.
