Location
This was taken on the beach of Carlsbad, California.Time
It was sunset in December of 2013.Lighting
The lighting is natural, no filters, no apps, nothing else. Sunsets are spectacular on their own!Equipment
I shoot with an MSLR camera since DSLR's are too heavy for me to hold now. My Sony NEX-6 is a great camera and for this sunset I used the 16-50 mm lens.Inspiration
I call this 'Inspirational Sunset' because I was drawn to the sunset that night, though I was in the middle of a home project. At first it was a 'typical' sunset in California, then, as I was starting to leave, the clouds and the colors just changed to this amazing orange and purple fusion. I got out of my car and ran to the shoreline and realized that the angle of the clouds coming in and the way the waves were flowing on to the shoreline were in a 'V' formation. The sea foam added a sort of lace effect! Later I found out that this night a good friend's mother passed away. This is her 'passing sunset' - June Drago - 'Inspirational Sunset'.Editing
I love two different software programs, Adobe Photoshop, and Photoscape. They do similar applications, however, there are some subtle differences. Typically I like to leave my photos natural, however, there are times I take out a blemish or two, and sometimes I love to change them completely for art effect, inverting the image, changing the colors, making a fantasy photo, etc.In my camera bag
My camera bag always has my two lenses 16-50 mm f/3.4-5.6 Optical SteadyShot (OSS) zoom lens and 55-210 mm f/4.5-6.3 OSS, a 3.8x zoom lens, clean clothes, spare discs, unipod, large tripod, and mini tripod.Feedback
Southern California has some of the most spectacular sunsets around. I like to get different angles, lay on the sand, climb a lifeguard tower (carefully), climb up a hill, and sit or crouch in crevices in a cliff or mountain side. This shot was captured by laying on the sand as the waves came up on to the shoreline.
