This photo was taken in my backyard. We were visiting with some friends and notice a dragonfly who seemed pretty nosy and kept hanging around. So I decided that if it was still around when I came back with my camera then I'd try and capture a macro shot of it.Time
This was taken mid afternoon if I remember correctly.Lighting
It was a lovely clear summer afternoon.Equipment
I used a Canon 7D with a Sigma 105mm 1:2.9 DG Macro lens. No time to set up a tripod so I held my breathe, focused and...took many shots!Inspiration
Summer is Massachusetts always brings an abundance of dragonflys to our backyard and I've never seen one really close up. I was thrilled with the results! The colors, the translucency and sparkle of its wings, and the texture of it's eyes. I also got a giggle from it whiskers (?) as they reminded me of a skinny mustache that, if this was a cartoon character, it would twists the ends to keep them fresh looking!Editing
I worked with the RAW photo and did a bit of sharpening and other standard tweaks but nothing more was needed. In my camera bag
I usually carry my Canon 7D with my macro tuck in my bag - cause you never know. Besides that a Sigma telephoto lens helps me be prepared for most anything else that happens.Feedback
Go with your gut when it's says "grab your camera"! Have fun. Be patient.
