Excellent shot! Very good focus! I had a Pelican Encounter myself, earlier this year. Uploaded a few shots to vb just this afternoon. You might like to take a look. :)

Location
This photo was taken on the Murray river, near Mannum in Sth Australia,we were on a houseboat holiday. The Murray was at very low levels due to a severe drought,we had to be towed out of the mooring yard due to the low levels, but fortunately we managed not to get grounded anywhere.Time
Golden Pond was taken early morning, the was plenty of birdlife present, due mainly to the drought. The Pelicans were in abundance, looking for small fish to catch.Lighting
The lighting was superb, taken in the Golden Hour, before it gets to light. The Golden hue is due to the colour of the cliffs which run along one side of the river, the reflections on the water made this one of my favourite shots.Equipment
Nikon D50,28-300mm Nikon telephoto,handheld,no flash.Inspiration
After taking quite few shots of other boats and birds,I spotted this fellow coming into land, the sight was beautiful, the colour great,so took a quick shot.Editing
No post-processing ,as I am not a great believer in that. I think a photo should be as you see it with your own eye,you see too many that are over cooked, which in my mind wrecks the picture. In my camera bag
Nikon D70s,Nikon D3200,Tamron 90mm macro,Nikon 35mm 1.8,Nikon 50mm 1.8,Nikon 28-300 Telephoto,Sekonic light meter L358.Spare cards and battery.Feedback
My main dislikes are horizons that are not straight, avoid power lines and poles.check your composition before shooting, look for the best point of view.Try to shoot at the best time of day. ie the Golden hour,of which there is an app, which tells you the right time for it worldwide.Lighting is the main object to creative work.
