It's fascinating how a photo capturing such a serious subject as a controlled burn can be so beautiful and so haunting. Lovely work.

amazing shot! Spectacular how you managed to capture this scene with the incredible light too. The sunrays are beautiful, the pose of the fireman, and the scene. Great image.

Location
This photo was taken on a property just out of a town called Kempsey on the mid north coast of NSW Australia. There was a huge bush fire that was threatening the towns. The firefighters from the Rural Fire Service worked all day to try and contain this beast and by the end of the day 2/08/2014 at around 4:00 PM they finally had the upper hand.Time
It photo was taken at about 4 pmLighting
I was so lucky with this shot. The sun was just starting to come down. So I waited and it got at the prefect angle and with the smoke and trees it looked unreal. The best thing was one of the firefighters came into shotEquipment
I used my Canon 7D with the settings 1/500 sec; f/7.1; ISO 400. Lens was the 24-105mm at the full 24mm and hand head.Inspiration
I'm a firefighter myself and a freelancer as well. I like to capture history and something people can look back on and say " oh do you remember when this happen". So capturing this photo they can do this and the firefighter in the shot has got a framed copy of this photo as well.Editing
All I really did was bring out the shadows a bit more and that's it. What you see is what I had seen.In my camera bag
What equipment well. I have a Canon 7D, 1Ds mark II. Lens 70-200mm 2.8, 24-105mm, 10-22mm and Tilt Shift 24mm and they are Canon, Speedlites Canon 430 EX, Yongnuo Yn560Feedback
Slow down and be patient. Think about under exposure by a stop or two. Watch what the light is doing and use it to your advantage.
