Location
In the backyard of this fantastic 91 year old lady's house in my native country of Cyprus.Time
Late morning.Lighting
This was one of those rare times when the harsh light benefited me because it accentuated her lines..not a wonderful thing 99% of the time but this portrait was all about showing the passage of almost a century edged on her face.Equipment
Nothing other than my nikon d5200 and the 50mm 1.4 lensInspiration
I love photographing older people because i find there is a story to be told...there is so much more character..this particular lady has gone through so much in her life and yet there was such resilience in her eyes. I wanted to show that.Editing
Increased clarity to enhance the lines on her face.In my camera bag
3 different lenses, a zoom, a 50mm 1.4 prime for portraits and an ultra wide for landscapes. Also ND filters such as the 3-stop and the 10-stop and a CPL.Feedback
I find that black and white is a must for portraits but especially for older people. If you are using natural light and don't have a dark backdrop handy place your subject with their backs facing a darker, shaded area so you can enhance those shadows even more in post-processing. Engage with your model. Talk to them and try to get them to relax even as you take photos because older people are usually reluctant to have their picture taken.
