Two QJ lift a train out of Tunnel 4 on the climb to the top of the pass at Shandian.
Many ingredients had to work in your favour:
A winter with snow. clear sunny day,
One of the 4-6 eastbound trains a day had to be leaving JingPeng at the right time, the right time was about half an hour from getting light on the line and the winter sun moving to far around so that it became to backlit.
Most difficult was to get the right wind conditions. It was a 40 minute up hill walk to get here to have countless times the smoke shadowed out the train.
This time everything worked and the shot was in the bag. January 2001

Your train photos are spectacular and one sure does not see trains like this anymore. Wonder if they still run in China.

This line was opened in 1995 as a provincial line with low budget hence used second hand locomotives. However by 2005 the line was fully diesallized. There is still one significant industrial mine railway operating with Steam in 2019 approx 5 locomotives
