Dettifoss is such an incredible place. We were lucky enough to be there alone in the evening. The waterfall is so huge and powerful no picture can do it justice. When you’re there it gives you the feeling that it has been flowing like this for thousands and thousands of years. Feels ancient and eerie. Not to mention there are no walkways up close or safety barriers so you can get right up to the edge.
We arrived around 9:00pm and walked up to Selfoss (do not miss this part if you go—just upriver). When we returned it was closer to midnight the light was really nice. Seen many times in pictures, but I liked the silkiness to this one, softening such a raw, powerful place.
