1993 Mississippi River flood caused massive damage from it's Headwaters all the way to the Gulf of Mexico. This image was taken in LaCrosse, WI at a popular Riverside Park. The actual river banks would be approximately 300' behind the trees pictured here. Flood stage in 1993 was @39'. The tree trunks were submerged in 3 - 4' of water (below the Black rings)

I've been asked how i captured this image...1993 Mississippi River flooding...this was in LaCrosse, WI. This park is one of the largest parks in the area and right along the river. When it flooded, the river had crested several feet above flood stage, making the park a virtual lake. This image was taken a few days after the floodwaters began to recede, so I was able to drive close enough to still be safe and to capture the impact of the flooding. I used a Pentax camera with Fuji black & white film. I do not recall the exact settings, but my "norm" back then was ISO 400 at f 5.6 - f 8.
