I was in this area doing some plant inventory work. Cottonwoods can turn a nice yellow-orange in fall. This is WSW of Cuba, New Mexico, in the general area of Cabezon Peak.
Note - the smaller trees in the foreground are Tamarisks, or "salt cedars."
BTW - there are several "Rio Puercos" ('muddy river') in Arizona and New Mexico.
