Some photograghs take a hard look at the parts of life that we don't always want to know exist. Unfortunately, the truth sometimes hurts. Thank you in advance if you took the time to view this photograph and read the following paragraph:
This photo is not about the junkie on the streets trying to get their fix. It is, however, about the millions of people out there that rely on various drugs just to survive day to day. Whether it is the once happy and energetic 4th grader who now takes medication to manage their “ADHD” because the parents and teachers can’t handle a kid being a kid, the insulin dependent teen struggling to keep their blood sugar at just the right level when they just want to celebrate Halloween like everyone else, or the manic depressive mother who can’t find happiness, the workaholic turned insomniac after devoting years to trying to get ahead of the game at work, the husband who relies on testosterone and Viagra to feel like a man, or the grandparent who can’t hold their grandchild’s hand because the arthritic pain is so intense. These people are out there. Some of them live with you, work next to you, or are just strangers passing by on the streets. Most of them look in the mirror everyday and only see shades of gray, asking themselves...why me? In the end, they do what they have to in order to survive…day by day.

This is amazing and I appreciate the info about the photo. This is powerful and deserves a lot more attention than it has.

Black & White stories is my first reaction. Well done. The soft focus on the drain drives home the point of the drug haze that so many people experience, as you say, living day to day. Quite diaristic.

Very powerful b&w and composition. Reminds me of the lyrics... "Looking for color in a shade of gray, Looking for love in a drop of rain. Trying to find change from the old mundane, but everything I do just feels the same". Congrats!
