A late September sunset on Hog Flat Reservoir in Lassen County, California, USA.
The newly formed Susan River Irrigation district formed the reservoir in the late 19th century when levees were built around a large meadow to capture spring runoff.

In wetter years of the past this area would still be under a few feet of water. However, recent years of draught and increased access to the water by a large local ranch has meant that both Hog Flat and it's sister Reservoir, McCoy Flat just to the west are typically dry by the late summer. Indeed, I'd hiked more than half a mile out in to the lake to the point where I captured this image
