On August 17th, 2013, an illegal campfire started by a hunter, ended with over 400 square miles burnt, and a cost of over 127 million dollars.
Although firefighters kept the blaze out of Yosemite Valley, many places like the land around Hetch Hetchy Reservoir was destroyed.
On a brighter note, in the long run it will be beneficial, as some tree species need post-fire conditions to germinate. These species will start to spring up for the first time in many years.

This really shouldn't be an outstanding picture, because it's just a lot of dead trees. But know what? it is! it's very effective, all the trees are so straight and conform to each other, the wispy clouds and blue sky, the composition. Hey, it works!

Great photo in every way. I know that some of the bigger trees even after a burn out will rebud and grow in some cases would love to See a photo taken in exactly the same place in the spring and then again in a year or two just to see how it turns out. Here in Louisiana they have controlled burns on tracts of land periodically to keep down wildfire chances among other reasons

There are forests [?] that look like this in Oregon too. Great shot! too bad it had to go that way

I think the message this picture conveys is great and is a sad reminder of what can happen...
