An adventure photographer explores the frozen meltwater channels beneath the vast Vatnajökull ice cap. As the glacier retreats at 100m per year these vast caverns are created by the resulting meltwater. During the winter the water freezes making an exploration of the vast subterranean tunnel network possible. The light from above filters down through the ice creating a staggering array of colours, patterns, shapes and textures. A bit of an ice potholing expedition with several narrow squeezes to get this deep but very much worth it. You can hear the glacier creaking and groaning which is a bizarre experience from below.
