A warm sunset over the still snow-covered high-country of the Pyrenees, just as the lakes were starting to thaw out from their icy winter grave, was a wonderful welcome to my trip. The sun set over the steep climb up to Port de Ratera, a winding route up to the pass; that was lined with radiant neret (rhododendron) blooms the year before, on this exact date.
