People always ask me, when should I use black and white, when the real question is, when should you use color!? I think of this shot when the topic comes up, because color was distracting me, and the shot as a whole until I turned it into a black and white and the tones just made more sense (to the eye), BUT, the subject, the Little RED Lighthouse is almost done a disservice by being turned into shades of gray, so therefore with selective coloring I brought it back to it's original state and here you have a pretty interesting shot, ice floats in the Hudson from last year, the geometry and majesty of the George Washington Bridge, and this famous and quaint little lighthouse underneath it.

I love that you choose the red as an accent color. It makes the black and white image powerful.

Wonderful! The red lighthouse looks like it just appeared in the grey cityscape by magic. Thank you for these gorgeous images of the city where I was born!

Great creative way to accent the major subject of an image. Believe it or not, I have thought of doing the same with some images. I just haven't found some real good ones to do,

Not specific to this image, but inclusive of it... I could spend hours in your gallery... it says add a critique, but i'm too awestruck to find a flaw. I just want to follow you for a week in the field and post production to learn how you do this. Amazing, work. Thank you for sharing all these images with the world.
