This photo marks the start of a really big, exciting new project for me. I\'m not going to say too much about it yet, since so much of it still exists only in my mind, but I just had to take this quick self portrait in front of my cozy little house at sunset to get it started.
I will say that the series focuses on dreams, which is where I started with this photo. \"Trying to get home\" is one of those common dreams everyone experiences at times, and I wanted my photo to reflect that feeling... the relief at finally reaching your destination, the warm light shining out from it, the darkness closing in as you try to out-run it. Even the long skirt has significance, as so many dreams find the dreamer stuck or running in place; the long, flowing skirt implies just a little of that inability to move forward to me.
For anyone interested, the dress is one I drafted myself using what little I remember reading about Medieval clothing and its carefully geometric pattern pieces (I am both a history geek and a historical clothing geek, so I was indeed reading about it for fun). And while the skirt has been added to a bit in post, it really is HUGE! It\'s the longest, biggest skirt I have ever made or worn. I am in love with it, and I want to use it in all my photos now ;)
