Our garden club convinced our local town council to set aside 100 sf of land for a community butterfly garden, where we have (together with local boy scouts' help) planted close to 100 nectar and milkweed plants and had it certified as a Monarch Waystation by Monarch Watch. The old adage, "if you plant it (milkweed) they will come" might have worked in time but, we were impatient so, we raised some Monarchs from egg and released them into the garden. This is a photo of a release. This Monarch was kind enough to take a selfie with me.
