Excellent composition, I like the colors and the message you give through the picture.

Location
Driving through our countryside in San Francisco's East Bay hills near our home, this old barn with the green hills and yellow mustard caught my eye. The horses were definitely enjoying the pasture.Time
I shot this image in the early afternoon but overhead clouds diffused the shadows.Lighting
The light was pretty even so there weren't any deep shadows to emphasize the dips in the hills.Equipment
I used a Nikon D80 with an 18-135mm zoom lens which allowed me to take a wide angle photo. The shot was handheld with my car parked on the side of this country road.Inspiration
We received a little much needed rain this last winter and were rewarded with a month of so of green before everything went dry again. The California drought has been difficult for everyone and this was a lovely sight.Editing
Lightroom helped me minimize haze and tweak saturation to get a richer looking image. I'm hesitant to admit this but, I changed out the sky. The original photograph has a very nice, solid blue, boring sky. I took a landscape photography class from Matt Koslowski at CreativeLive; he also teaches at On1. He taught us how to take the sky from one photo and substitute it into another photo. I can include that process here if you would like. It isn't too hard but it does take time, patience, and practice. I think adding the cloudy sky in this image gave it a lot more interest. In my camera bag
I normally carry a Nikon D80, 18-135mm and 55-300mm zoom lens, a tripod, a polarizing filter, and a hood loupe to check my focus clarity.Feedback
I usually have my camera with me and, when I see something that catches my eye, I take time to capture the moment. It's usually about the light. Taking landscape photos means you are dependent upon the weather and time of day. When something catches my eye, it is almost always about how the light is falling on the subject, which can be fleeting. If I need to take a quick shot, I default to my iPhone SE so I get at least one image - then I set up my Nikon for a more thoughtful exposure.
