A couple of weeks ago I had been to the most amazing place in India - the Valley of Flowers. It is situated at 3352 to 3658 meters above the sea level. the Valley is the transition zone between the Zanskar Ranges and the Greater Himalayas.
It was accidentally discovered by Frank Smythe. It so happened that he had lost his way while trekking in the Himalayas. It is said that when he entered the Valley, it was full of mist, but sometime later the mist lifted up and he was mesmerised by the sheer beauty of the Valley in front of him. He later wrote a book on the Valley.
There is a memorial placed of botanist Joan Margaret Legge from Kew Gardens, who was studying the flora of the Valley. One day while collecting some flowers, she slipped off and lost her life.
The best time to visit the Valley is only from July to September, when it is in the various stages of bloom.
