Congratulations on being a finalist in the Hands contest! I thought I had already commented on this photo but I guess I remember it from voting in the contest! Very powerful.

A fantastic image that begs for the story behind it. Well done.

These hands belong to my 88 year old friend Adele. She is an amazing woman. Born at a time when birth defects carried enormous stigma she was disadvantaged to begin with. Then at age three she cought polio which further handicapped her, Yet she grew to live a very full albeit challenging life. She went to regular school and then university. She married and raised a family from a wheelchair which included a handicapped child. She lost her husband far too early in life and had to make her way in the world. Now she has the sweetest, most gentle spirit I have ever seen, largely due to her belief in God.Though her spirit is strong, her hands attest to the difficulties she has faced. She was always ashamed of her hands and has been amazed at the response this photo has gotten. She never realized the story her hands tell. She is an amazing woman and I love her!
