Utah Juniper Tree, Dead Horse Point State Park, Utah.
I had seen this tree in photos when I was researching Dead Horse and it seemed to be the best perspective of foreground and canyon. After scouting a bunch of spots without getting what I had envisioned I decided to try and find it. When we arrived the day before my planned sunrise here I could not find the tree anywhere along the east rim but luckily we had noticed an image in the visitor center that featured it. We took a picture of the vista to the east with my phone and went back to the visitor center to see how the canyon features lined up and I was able to finally figure out where to look. Turns out I couldn't find it because the tree is only about 20 inches tall! It totally looked like a regular sized tree to me from the images I had seen. It just shows how hard scale is to nail when photographing these vistas.
Anyway, I arrived the next morning to a mainly overcast sky at sunrise but was able to take advantage of some brief light on the tree and cliffs shortly thereafter. Obviously not the most original composition but possibly the nicest overall image from my trip.
