Drove to our first destination, Cucina Toscana. Walked to our second, Wiseguys Comedy Club where we got to enjoy the talented T.J. Miller. Being the only one interested in a meet and greet, I waited alone to meet this talented artist while my party went to retrieve the car. Afterwards, I waited on a swing set outside the club. This gave me a window of alone time in the city late at night to take a few snaps of my surroundings. I was quite taken as a group of teens/early twenties, approached me while I sat on a swing. The first one to approach me from the group was an African American male (I point this out because he trusted this middle aged white woman in this current climate of division where many feel misunderstood). He tenderly sat on the swing next to me and smiled then told me they wanted to make sure I was ok because I was alone and it was late. The rest of the group soon followed. We sat there together swinging, talking, laughing, and enjoying each other which ended in hugs when my ride arrived. Beautiful interaction with strangers in Covid season. He had no idea who I was or how I’d react to a stranger approaching me in the city at that hour but he took a chance on me anyway. So many negative voices that we face everyday in the media that want nothing more than to divide us. Let’s start “seeing” each other. Let’s start “hearing” each other. Human interaction is huge and it’s what will keep us moving forward. That is the element we’re missing. Let’s not forget that human connection. Maybe if we start sharing stories of connection instead of stories of conflict and division, we can conquer some of the ugliness that wants to take over. Just a thought. Yes we were all wearing masks. ????
