The veins of black ash from volcanic eruptions, blue ice of varying densities and finely ground sediment means glaciers are often more colourful than you might image; particularly as you approach the terminus at the end of a flow. Here an open topped ice cave in the shape of a heart can be seen in the centre of the image.
