The Dottie Mae flew 90 missions in WWll including D-Day. She survived only to crash in an Austrian lake on a celebratory flight near a POW camp to alert captives that help was on the way. The pilot survived but the plane sank where it stayed until 2005. It was recovered and restored at Vintage Aircraft in Caldwell. It was finished last August after 55,000 man hours of labor.

love this shot. My did flew these in WW2 he was shot down and survived . After he recovered they gave him a new plane ( -P-47N) that he finished his tour in. IT was the only WW2 fight to have all the ACE survive the war..

Was your dad an ace? My uncle is an ace, 9 kills and 4 unconfirmed. F4 Wildcats and F6 Hellcats. Turned 100 last month.
