Up near Turpan, Xinjiang, in the north west of China, the midday heat often reached over 110℉, the nights much cooler. It was fascinating to see that nearly all of the residents slept in the street as it was just too damn hot to sleep inside. Some slept on beds, others just in their motorbike trailers. On the last day, I asked my driver to drop me in the village so I could take some pictures. The residents were unperturbed by my presence as if strange white folk often stuck a camera in their face the moment they woke up. It was a gift to be there.
