The town square and it's surrounding structures were once part of Mexico. It was a major stop between San Antonio Texas and San Diego California. Due to the signing of the Gadsden Purchase between the United States and Mexico in 1855, this town along with many others like it became part of the United States. It is located next to the modern city of Las Cruces New Mexico (USA).
