This is a door to the house that my grandmother left behind when she immigrated to the USA in 1900 at the age of 14. Much of this village was destroyed during WW2 and some of the ruins, including this house, were left as is. I took this photo in 2010 when I was there researching my family's history. Although the door was padlocked I was curious as to what was inside, so I attempted to film through the slit using my little flip video camera. It was so dark and even w/the flash, I assumed I had gotten nothing.
It was only later, when reviewing the video that I discovered the flash lit up dusty shelves filled with bottles of wine and a variety of jars of olives. I can't help but wonder how long they've been there and who may have left them.

Thanks for sharing your story. I, myself, would have made it inside somehow.
