There is a plateau near the top of Deadman's Pass in the Sierra Mountains, which border California & Nevada in the US. The pass is well over 8,000 feet above sea level, and the remains of this old homestead is quite near the summit. This was taken in late May, still snow on the ground, too cold to begin planting, little for grazing animals to eat. Why anyone would choose such a place ... I wonder how many dreams died in the cold up there.
