I had wanted to shoot this scene for sunset. That tree spoke volumes to me, old, gnarled. On the way back through on the Blue Ridge Parkway in North Carolina, I thought to myself... "Self... Lets take a photo of the Milky Way near that old gnarled tree".... I should of said "Self, there's too much light pollution!" I wanted to test the 10-24 f4... To be fair it was a fun, and unsettling. After all the wildlife from earlier in the trip I stood 50 yards from the car in pitch black with a tiny flashlight... Then rather than giving into the fear of finding myself mauled by some angry wild animal [I know, ridiculous, but sometimes you get those thoughts going and BAM] I kept shooting this scene till I got something I liked. The tree I thought came out well as a Silhouette against the sky, and city bellow. Mars up in the upper right with a bit of flare on top of that!
